Nuc of Buckfast Bees available June* 2021 [FULL PAYMENT]
THIS IS A NON-REFUNDABLE PURCHASE DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE ITEM.
It should come as no surprise that we are issuing a delay notice, we have had snow again yesterday. It has been very cold start to the year and has set bees back significantly, we anticipate a delay of around 2 weeks, if the weather breaks soon.
We will of course keep you updated should this change.
We are looking at mid-May for the first delivery TBC.
Specifically chosen for their typical Buckfast qualities, calmness on the frame, easy management and fast development. These bees are perfect for new beekeepers and pollinators alike, we use these in our own apiaries for teaching and to pollinate top fruit across Kent.
Supplied to us from an associated company in Northern Ireland, they are received into Northern Ireland from Italy and after the bees have been health checked by a government appointed vet they are re boxed into hives, fed and allowed to fly. The bees are then sold to various customers one of which is Bee-Equipment based in Canterbury.
The bees can be supplied on almost any type of frame, please point out and double check you have ordered the right frames for your hive.
Nucs of Bees - We will supply you 6 frames with foundation, A mated laying queen, at this stage in the cycle you will have brood in all stages from eggs to sealed brood across the four frames, plus 1.5kg of bees, this will make a strong nuc of around 10,000 bees. This nuc of bees will need to be put into a hive as soon as possible.
These are normally delivered by Royal Mail You will be able to COLLECT these from Canterbury or a pre-arranged distribution point along the M56, M6 or M1 a small charge is made for collection en route.
- Please note: Bees will not arrive with us on frames - we will add the package bees to a nuc box on premier wax foundation and new frames¹
- See picture for bees from our first round of packages in 2020 after a few weeks.
- Available from late May
- All coming to us from the same breeder in the Puglia region of Italy.
- Following inspections we are delighted with the results.
- No small hive beetle reported in the region.
- We kept over 100 of these on site for the main part of the season to see how they fared, we only used water and light touch smoke. Excellent results.
There are many benefits to producing and supplying bees from this more temperate area: you will have bees in the UK in time for the early fruiting crops as well as tree pollen, that could help achieve a good start to the season.
They will start to produce and early honey crop long before other local choices of bees.
These bees are characterised by all the normal Buckfast traits, easy to work with, good honey producers with low swarming instincts.
¹One of the frames could be from last years drawn frames as and when available, we do this to reduce the instances of queens leaving the hive because they have no place to lay eggs.
Order 10+ for £175.00 each + £35 for each nuc if delivered - contact our sales team for more information.
*This is a weather dependant sale.
When will nucs be delivered?
We expect nucs to be ready in June (all dates are approximate and weather dependent).
